Our client approached us to provide a comprehensive garden gesign and landscaping service for a large rear domestic garden that at the time lacked any interest or focal points, had no symmetry, and was not functional. The garden had a random mixture of landscaping materials that didn't blend with each other, and the hard landscaping areas were at different levels from the house and were therefore impractical.
From our discussions with the client, we understood that access from the house to the garden was an important issue, but that currently there were three sets of doors with steps for each at varying heights.
Also, two unattractive dominating features were apparent that needed addressing - a long high wooden fence to the left and a detached double garage to the right.
The new design addressed both the deficiencies of the current garden and also specific customer requirements. These can be summarised as follows:
The principle of the design has been to link together all of the new features organically, creating a garden that flows from one area to another.
A large organic shaped patio was constructed using Indian sandstone paving. It stretched the length of the house and was all on the same level but most importantly, it was lifted so that there was no step down from the house. Quite a challenge, but completed successfully and in good time!
Two new features of the garden were a unique slate obelisk water feature and a new log cabin. Furthermore, the wooden fence was now partially obscured by a 'walk through' pergola that offered access to the garden from the lounge.
Throught the construction of a curved natural stone sett path with integral metal rose arches, we were able to reced the garage into the background. Movement around the garden was achieved through the creation of two paths, with a third that linked the water feature to the log cabin.
We were so pleased that we decided to commission Ideal Gardens to do all of the landscaping and planting work on our garden. Although we had some idea of what we wanted there was no way that either of us could have had the vision to put all the elements into a design that works so well, resulting in a garden of our dreams. Andy and Craig were so professional and accommodating in everything that they did.
